Quick Hits: Javy vs. Jaret

We’re introducing a new feature to our site, Quick Hits. Once we’ve done a few of these, don’t be surprised to see the links to these articles moved to a different part of our home page.
These are player value discussions, usually generated from questions posed to us by readers. If you have any player value questions yourself, email us at comments@stratogists.com and we’ll do our best to answer them, though your answer might be published as an article rather than an email reply. Note that there are more of you than there are of us, and we might not be able to get to every one.
We don’t purport to have the absolute answer to every question, but we will offer our best insight in the time we have. Keep in mind that another wrinkle that can throw things off is different leagues that people play in: obviously a 35-man roster, full retention salary league with in-season trading could hold far different values for a player than a 30-man roster, complete re-draft league free of salary restrictions.
QUESTION:
I've been offered Javy Lopez for Jaret Wright. I can't make up my mind to pull the trigger or not. Lopez would improve the lineup, and Wright is potentially a 1-year wonder, though it leaves me nowhere to play Inge as he’s blocked at other positions on my team.
I also have the #3 pick in the upcoming rookie draft, and am pretty confident that Mauer and Crosby go 1-2. That would allow me to take Greinke and fill a rotation spot. Is Greinke the right choice?
STRATOGIST REPLY:
All reports say Jaret Wright should be good for another nice run this year. His 2nd-half numbers were good.
Lopez's days of belting 30+ homers are probably over. You could do that deal, but know that Javy will start slowing down considerably over the next four years. He will still be effective, but not great.
If your team is contending and has a real shot at winning it all this year, take the deal and draft Greinke. You might want to feel out the first two teams in the draft and see who they will take. If you are confident of getting Greinke and can win it all this year, go for the deal.
